Besan Ladoo Recipe

Besan Ladoo is one of the most popular Indian sweet dishes. Almost all of us prepare this mouth-watering ladoo during the festive season.

Different types of ladoo and barfi are made during Diwali such as Coconut Ladoo, Motichur Ladoo, Kaju Barfi, etc. Among all these, Besan Ladoo comes with a golden brown appearance.

The delicious aroma of roasted Besan gives it a unique flavor.

Ladoos are rounded sweet balls which are prepared from the very ancient times in India. When people do not have readily available fancy sweets or ‘Chena‘ (crushed paneer). Since that time we Indians are making these delicacies.

All of these sweet dishes require basic ingredients easily available in our household. Such as Besan, Atta (Whole wheat flour), Bundis (prepared from Besan only).

What is Besan Ladoo?

Besan Ladoo is usually made out of Besan or Chickpea flour. With that goes in Ghee, Sugar or Jaggery (for sweetening) and Cardamom powder (optional).

This ladoo consists of health benefits due to the Chickpea flour in it. This flour is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals including Iron, Magnesium, Potassium, etc.

Besan has more good fat & protein than whole wheat flour. Hence, it is good for building immunity. It is also good for our hearts.

The ladoo has a long shelf life if stored well in an air-tight container. One can relish them for many days. All age group people like Besan ke Ladoo. It is a good sweet option for children as well.

Since it requires only a handful of ingredients, you can easily make this ladoo at any time of the year. This ladoo will always be a quick & easy option to impress your sudden guests.

Even if there is no occasion you can just make it within no time. The recipe is a simple one. Believe me. I have tried for the first time and the ladoos turned out awesome.

Please take care of the following few points while making this ladoo.

  • Roast the Besan in low flame while stirring it continuously. Otherwise, the besan will burn and it will taste bitter.
  • Use enough quantity of ghee so that the besan is cooked properly in it.
  • DO NOT pour the sugar in besan while it is still hot or warm. Allow it to cool completely. Then only add sugar in it. If sugar is added in warm besan, the sugar will melt and eventually your ladoo will not take proper shape.
  • You can use jaggery powder also instead of sugar to make a healthier version of it.
  • If you are unable to make round shaped ladoos, keep the besan and sugar mixture in the refrigerator for 10-12 minutes. Let it cool and the ghee solidifies a bit. After that try to make it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Besan or Chickpea flour
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1-2 Elaichi or Cardamom
  • 4 tablespoon Ghee or Clarified Butter
  • 1-2 tablespoon Dry Fruits and Nuts (chopped)

How to prepare Besan Ladoo - Step by Step recipe

  • Take the sugar and Elaichi in a grinder.

  • Make a smooth powder of the sugar and keep it aside.

  • Keep Besan and Sugar ready to be used.

  • Heat the required amount of ghee in a pan or kadhai on low flame.

  • Now add the Besan in the pan.

  • Start roasting it by stirring continuously on low flame.

  • Make sure to keep the flame on low during the whole process so that the Besan is roasted evenly.
  • Slowly the Besan will start changing color. Do not forget to stir at this point. Otherwise, it will burn.

  • The Besan will gradually melt into the ghee. Also, the nutty flavor or aroma of besan will start to fill in your kitchen.

  • Roasting of Besan will take some time, around 10-15 minutes. Do not lose hope and keep stirring it. Turn off the flame when the color changes to a golden brown. And the consistency will also become slightly thick but not too thick.

  • After switching off the flame, keep the besan in the pan for cooling for some time. At this point, you can add a pinch of turmeric just to enhance the color of the ladoo. This is completely optional.

  • Mix the turmeric well into the besan and then keep it at normal room temperature for around 15-20 minutes till it cools down completely.

  • After that, add the powdered sugar into the pan.

  • Make sure to mix the sugar with the besan very well.

  • You can add some dry fruits or nuts if you want to. It will add some extra crunch in the ladoos.

  • When the besan is mixed properly with sugar and dry nuts, start making ladoo out of it. Take some amount in your hand and make round shaped balls.
